Welcome to the SHCK!
Look Ma, I'm online!
It may not be the flashiest of websites, but it's functional...which is more than I can say for attempts of mine in the past. I hope to keep this site current and easy to navigate, because I really love interaction and am totally excited about having a place of my own in the petz community. And I don't really care how the site looks beyond that. So please, I beg you from the bottom of my heart, register and even just say hi if you want...it'll make my day.
Come on in...
Known more commonly as The Haven, the SHCK has been around longer than most people know. Originally known as "Shay'z Haven, Cattery and Kennel," the kennel has grown up quite a bit since then. Severe computer and time issues kept me from keeping the SHCK online for very long, but I've been breeding and collecting petz for as long as I can remember and have been involved with the PKC for at least four years. Now that I finally have a working computer and a semester schedule that allows me to keep a stable showing and web-upkeep life, the SHCK is up and running for all to enjoy!
The heart and soul of the Haven
"Beauty is to be unique" has always been my personal motto, as well as the motto of the Haven. It may be a little silly, but the phrase means alot to me, and I try to make sure it's reflected in all that I do. It's basically something that has boosted my self-worth and helped me out alot...because frankly, I'm pretty odd and I'm addicted to the strange. It's cool to be unique!
The petz here reflect this, which I find funny. Most of them may not be perfect, but they're all unique and valued. Petz, for me, reflect little bits of art and fun...and I like sharing that.
As for the breedz I choose to show and care for, I'm naturally attracted to the more uncommon or even "strange" breedz. It's not because I want to fill in gaps at shows, which I've been unfairly accused of before, but because I really like oddballs and underdogs. I really want to see these breeds represented in shows, and holding their own. So, I not only show them myself, but try and encourage others to do the same. Maybe someone wouldn't necessarily want to breed their own rare-breed pet, but the thought of caring for one or two unique 2nd gen+ pups appeals to them. That's my goal. I want to share.
This also explains why I abosolutely love variations and mutations, little things to make each pet really unique. This gets me into trouble sometimes though, because alot of the time the offspring aren't A-reg, or they're faulted...which then leaves me with a whole mess of REALLY COOL petz, that I can't do much with but look at and admire. On the other hand, the plus side to this is that I'll get that occasional really gorgeous and special pet, who also happens to be A-reg quality. These are the ones who seem to do really well in shows, and stand out above the typical pet. These are the ones that feel really great to show off. Sadly, I lost my entire collection of the petz that epitomized this idea, and am now totally starting over.
So please, come on in, take a look around, and say hi! And maybe even take a few wonderful and unique petz home...
